Join us at the Center for Contemporary Arts as artist April Rifenburgh teaches us her process of using resin to create mixed-media assemblages, inspired by her exhibit Explorations in Movement.

All materials will be included for this workshop, but participants are encouraged to bring their own collage materials (scrapbooking paper, glitter, buttons, colored cellophane, confetti, crayon shavings, etc) from home if they wish! Pieces will take 24 hours to dry, so participants have the option to leave finished works at the Center and may pick them up the following day.

When: Friday, February 18th from 6-8 pm.

Tickets: $45 for General Admission; $40 for CCA Members for a 2-hour workshop with Teaching Artist April Rifenburgh!

About the Teaching Artist:

April Rifenburgh is a professional artist who specializes in whatever media she fancies at the moment. April has a BFA in sculpture from Illinois State University and works mostly in installation and time-sensitive media.

In 2012, April moved to Abilene and put down roots in the Big Country. It was the move to Texas that prompted April to get her teaching certification and she has taught art at Abilene High since 2013.

April's approach to artmaking is one of curiosity and courage. While she loves traditional oil painting, she's also driven to experiment with various mediums and see how she can manipulate objects and media to produce art she is drawn to.

One of the things that you will hear in Mrs. Rifenburgh’s art class is “well, I don’t know, let's try it and see what happens!” This is the philosophy that April lives by and has led to great successes as well as great failures; she embraces both as moments of building grit and resilience. April has gone from homelessness to business owner/professional artist/art teacher and is thankful for every character-building moment along the way.
